Title
High Jumpin'
Introduction
My testable question was, do different shoes affect your vertice jump? I chose this topic because i was interested in activities that involved force and motion. I experimented with two different shoes, Supra Skytop and Nike basketball shoes. I did a lot of research on both shoes before the experiment. so i think the experiment was valid.
I. Hypothesis
Before I did anything, i predicted that i would be able to jump higher with the Nike basketball shoes. since they were made to support your ankles while running, jumping, juking and things like that. Plus I knew that the Nike shoes weighed less than the Supras because after wearing the Supras for a day and then switching into the Nikes, i could feel the difference in weight.
II. Materials and Methods
To do this experiment i used the two pairs of shoes, tape, and measuring tools. I did three trials with each pair of shoes. first i weighed myself and then weighed both pairs of shoes. the Supras were roughly 2 pounds and the Nikes were roughly 1 pound. Each trial, I put a piece of tape on the wall when I jumped. then i measured how high the tape was. After I was done with the three trials, I found an average height of my vertical jump with each shoe.
III. Results
According to my results, I found out that my had a higher vertical jump with the Supra Skytop's instead of the Nike basketball shoes. I had an average of 8' 7.5" with the Supras and 8' 6.5" with the Nike basketball shoes. i think the Supras ended up supporting my jump more than the Nikes.

Weight:

my weight:
135 lbs.

nike shoe:
1 lbs.

Supra shoe:
2 lbs.

Supra Trial 1:
8' 6.5"

Trial 2:
8' 5.5"

Trial 3:
8' 9.5"

Average:
8' 7.5"

Nike Trial #1
8' 6.5"

Trial 2:
8' 5"

Trial 3:
8' 8"

Average:
8' 6.5"

IV. Conclusion
Overall, I found that different shoes do affect your vertical jump. I jumped higher with the Supra Skytops. I predicted that i would be able to jump higher with the actual basketball shoes (Nike) but it didn't end up that way.
V. Explanation
I think my results were valid and accurate. i do think the Supras made me jump higher than the nike basketball shoes. the basketball shoes are ment for supporting your ankles. The supras are skateboard shoes which are supposed to have good grip. Both shoes support your ankles because they are hightop and they are good for running, jumping, etc. The basketball shoes have an arched bottom sort of. The Supras have a flat bottom. I dont know the affect of an arched bottom or a flat bottom. overall, Supras are better than basketball shoes in my opinion.
